I’ve been listening to The Civil Wars all week after hearing them for the first time last week at 8tracks.com. I just looked up their tour schedule and they will be at The Pilot Light in the old city on the 22nd! I am a sucker for good harmony and they definitely have that. This is a cover of Billie Jean. Yeah, it sounds like it would be cheesy, but they do it with such emotion that I can’t stop listening to it.

Becoming a better developer involves knowing how, when, and why to refactor poorly operating code. In the not too distant past I didn’t take enough time to refactor code early in my projects which led to a resistance to change throughout the project’s lifecycle. By embracing the need to refactor code from the start, my projects are constantly evolving to meet the needs of users and do not suffer from the gridlock that inevitably plagued my earlier code.

There is so much to be learned from refactoring your own code. It allows me to see how I’ve grown as a developer. It also allows me to see which patterns hold up over the course of a project and which seem like good approaches in a project’s infancy but ultimately become unmaintainable.

This is my favorite song by Andy McKee. It’s named Rylynn. Unfortunately I don’t have a capo that will only cover 4 strings without shooting off the fretboard. I’ve been able to nail the main theme only a few times before the afore mentioned capo death trick happens.

I really enjoy the beat he adds to this song with the thumb slap. I have incorporated this effect into a version of Change the World by Eric Clapton that I’ll post one day.
